Wow, it's been a long time...

Now that I have I Heart Radio, gone are the days of tuning in to fuzzy / static-ridden talk stations or hoping to listen to a show online if a station even broadcasts on the web. I'm not sure if this blog is even on anyone's watch list anymore. My art site is www.ChrisFrancz.com/. I had my own talk show on www.pibco1.com (The Poconos Internet Broadcasting Company) in the spring and early summer of 2009 but quit it due to the stress of a weekly 3 hour show and other nonsense drama. My show was called Art Attack Radio. I interviewed local artists and had local musicians play unplugged in the studio. I tried having a co-host but that didn't work that well. She started calling me her co-host which was ridiculous because she didn't bring anything to the show in the way of guests or art-related things to talk about. I have a couple of the shows in mp3 format but I've yet to listen to them.

After the last -- in between the last two ice ages, it was actually five degrees warmer than it is today, and yet Greenland didn't melt, which is also very, very strange. Oh, and the ice core also shows plant life in Antarctica, which is -- wow, what up with that one? Seems like, where were the SUVs? So I believe in global warming, I believe in global cooling, I believe in global climate change, I believe it. I just don't necessarily believe that what you're proposing would actually change jack. But, you know, the science is settled there, otherwise off with your head, you know what I'm saying?

Glenn Beck talked about Kelly Clarkson today on his show. He was commenting on her comments regarding that huge religious festival this weekend - Live Earth. He asked Stu to play some of her music so that he could speak with her music in the background. Then Glenn began making fun of Clarkson's music which he admitted to not hearing before. It was very childish. Even if he does not like Clarkson's comments about being "scared as hell" with what's going on with the environment he didn't need to make fun of her music.

I still listen for 6-7 hours a day but for a while now I've been listening to Elvis Duran and the Morning Zoo from New York City (7:30am - 10:00am). WABC weekends suck except Mark Simone and Monica Crowley. What is with their Sunday line-up. Okay, speaking of Monica Crowley...She needs to stop referring to her listeners / fans as Monica Maniacs. Rush has his Ditto Heads and Glenn Beck has his Sick Freaks but Monica Maniacs just does not have that same ring to it. Sorry, Monica. I give you credit for trying though.

When he gets all serious-looking we can tell him that we were just joking and the Sun is the reason that Earth has gotten so darned hot. I bet he convinces the few surviving humans that their cave painting is what caused the planet to get so hot.

Chris buys a movie for $5.50

Last night while at WalMart I looked at the discount DVD rack and was shocked to see the movie, Talk Radio. I saw it in 1990 and have really wanted to get this DVD for the last two years and now here it was for only $5.50. The talk radio host that the movie revolves around does not really seem that realistic and there seems to be a lot of inconsistencies in this fictional character's ideology. One minute he's putting down bleeding-heart liberals and the next minute he's espousing ludicrously liberal ideas. He was an antagonist so the inconsistencies may have been intentional. It's a good movie though. It's solid. If you pick up a copy, don't watch it right after a movie with any action because you'll be bored out of your mind.

Had to work the night shift so that meant good Talk Radio on 77 WABC. Mark Levin, then some dude who's name I forget....Jerry Apgar? The greatest thing though was finding Laura Ingraham in the 10pm slot. I really love and missed her show a lot. Her show...or hearing her voice was like hearing from an old friend that I hadn't seen or heard from in a long time. Coast to Coast AM was also great. I love my daytime usuals (Rush, Beck, Hannity) but it sure is great to hear some different voices coming from the AM dial.

And Don Imus....who cares? I've never really listened to Don Imus so I don't really care about the controversy surrounding him and his "nappy-headed ho's" comment.

Well, it's official 77WABC from New York City is a total wasteland on Sundays. Finance, home improvement and travel talk. I'd listen to Air America today if I could tune it in. On another note: I just got an email from a guy who was in a punk band that I believe I saw in 1988. They were from Allentown, PA and I thought that I saw them with The Russian Meatsquats. He googled the name of his band: Follow Fashion Monkeys and one of the entries of Talk Radio Fan was labeled that so he dropped me an email to tell me that he found this blog and to say that we have a lot in common politically, etc. The email was truly shocking. When I labeled the entry Follow Fashion Monkeys I was well aware that it was the name of an old punk band but I just needed a title for the entry and that popped into my mind.

Talk Radio used to be good on Sundays - Andrew Wilkow on WABC then Monica Crowley. Then Bauer and Rose after Wilkow left. Now, on both WABC and WAEB from 10am on they've got crappy health and financial shows. Who listens to this garbage? Here's the formula for the health show - an amazed host calls a health specialist who is selling a vitamin that no doctor wants anyone to know about because it is just so amazing and solves practically every single health problem that has ever existed. These health specialists are never in the studio with the host because he or she is just so crazy busy staying on the run from mainstream doctors who want him killed because of the secret vitamin that he has knowledge of. The financial shows? Who can listen for more than two minutes without strapping bombs to their chests?

I had high hopes for this site and it seemed like it was taking off but then the posts began to rapidly dwindle off and I'd keep checking back and there wasn't really anything happening so I'd post what I could but it seemed to be dying and it was sad to see. I emailed with the site's owner and he came across as very enthusiastic and said he'd keep going no matter what but if people lost interest what could he do? The biggest Talk Radio forums seem to be at www.WABCRadio.com and www.MarkLevinFan.com. I think that hosting a Talk Radio forum is a tough thing to do. So...goodbye to TalkRadioForums.com. I love all of the newly-elected Liberals across the country, Hillary Clinton, CNN, and other forms of media that keep saying "The American people have spoken and they are not happy with George W. Bush's policy in Iraq." Well, since the average American gets their news from one glance over the newspaper and ten minutes a day of network news or CNN of course they will be against anything that our country is doing in Iraq since the sources of news that they absorb are all overwhelmingly anti-President Bush. News makers and news reporters are constantly engaged in calling our President names, belittling him and insulting him and since this is all that most Americans hear of course they will begin repeating what they read in the editorial pages or what comes out of certain people's mouths. To put it simply: The media bashes Bush on a regular basis then conducts polls that prove that many people don't like Bush. It's like walking around in a room and hitting people over the head with a hammer and then conducting a survey to prove that yes, indeed, most people in the room suffer from headaches.

I knew that the guy took a turn to the Right a few years ago, but filling in for Hannity? I am getting pretty bored of Larry Kudlow on 77WABC on Saturday. He provides a lot of news and opinions but there's no real entertainment value. He needs a sidekick or something.

I got an email from someone asking me if I knew anything about Ron Kuby being fired? News to me. And I was a little surprised to turn on WABC (www.WABCRadio.com) and hear Ron Kuby and fill-in, Mark Simone. So, I guess that means that he was not fired. I went over to the WABC message board and there was no thread (that I could find) about Kuby being fired.

Jeffery Lickmen jokes that he was taken to the station by Curtis angels. I hope that kuby did not get fire because what they were talking a top of the hour and that he wanted soldiers be brought back now and congress should everything in power to that."

Talk Radio Fan's opinion: It seems lately that there is always someone filling in for Curtis or Ron. I think Mark Simone is on the Curtis and Kuby show more than Curtis and Kuby. That's just the way it is. I doubt Kuby will ever get fired.

Why can't people just stand up and say that they are sorry for the bad thing that they did or said? Mel Gibson put down Jews when he was drunk and later said that this is not the kind of person that he is. Michael "Kramer" Richards calls audience members at a comedy club "niggers" and then says "that was not me, I don't know where it came from." Some college football player not that long ago flipped his middle finger at someone or the other team when he was coming off the field and later said "that is not the kind of person that I am." Miss Nevada disgraces her crown, behaves poorly and is photographed kissing a woman then says "that was not me, that is not the kind of person I am."

Listen up, dummies - that was you! What we do is a reflection of our characters. Everything that we do or say reflects on some part of our personality. So, in 2007 let's just take credit for the stupid things that we may do or say and then try to improve ourselves instead of saying "whoa, how did that happen? that is just not the kind of person that I am!"

Gonna try to get the handheld / portable / carry-around Sirius unit. I need some variety with my Talk Radio, baby! I'd like to hear a different host every single hour. I drive around all day so I usually get to listen 2 hours of every three hour show and you do this every day - it just gets tiring because I get tired of the same voices for so long every day. Where I live you get three different things on the radio: Classic Rock, Talk Radio, Classic Rock, Top 40, and Classic Rock. Sometimes I get just a sick of hearing "Round About" by Yes as I do Rush's voice. Well, I'd rather hear Rush say the same word for three hours than ever hear "Round About" again but you get the idea....

Liberal 'Air America' Files for Bankruptcy
Air America Radio, a liberal talk and news radio network that features the comedian Al Franken, has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection, a network official told The AP.
The network had denied rumors just a month ago that it would file for bankruptcy. On Friday, Air America spokeswoman Jaime Horn told The Associated Press that the filing became necessary only recently after negotiations with a creditor from the company's early days broke down.
The network will stay on the air while it resolves issues with its creditors, Horn said. In addition to Franken, the network also features shows from liberal talk show host Randi Rhodes and Jerry Springer.
Horn declined to name the creditor with which talks had reached a logjam. The company will operate in the interim with funding from its current investor group.
Air America also said Friday it had named Scott Elberg as its new CEO. Elberg, a former general manager of the radio station WLIB in New York, has been with the network since May of last year.
The filing marked the latest turbulence at the liberal talk radio network, which went on the air two years ago. This April, Danny Goldberg stepped down as CEO and was replaced by an interim chief executive from a management consulting firm.
"Nobody likes filing for bankruptcy," Elberg said in a statement. "However, this move will enable us to concentrate on informing and entertaining our audience during the coming months."

Yep, still here. Things are heating up with the midterm elections just a month away. Gotta get sick of politics in times like these. I used to listen to Beck every day from 10 - 12 on WAEB (from the Lehigh Valley) but find John Gambling on WABC (from NYC) refreshing. Since I got my PSP (Playstation Portable) I haven't been listening to much Talk Radio at home in the evening. Still...I listen to Talk Radio about 7 hours during the day when I am at work. 7 hours a day of politics is more than anyone should listen anyway. My next conquest will be to get the handheld XM reciever. Beautiful full color display and you can record up to 24 hours of shows and listen to them whenever you want to! I am very happy with the replacement that 77WABC has for Andrew Wilkow (Sundays 10am-12pm) who moved to Sirius - Bauer and Rose (www.BauerandRose.com). These guys have fresh angles and are very enjoyable to listen to. It's good when you get a tag team show because you aren't listening to the same voice for 2-3 hours. I hope that this show gets huge! Curtis Sliwa, founder and head of the Guardian Angels, urged residents of a gated community to take preventive measures against gang violence by using his public safety organization.Although Sliwa cautioned that gang members are joining the exodus from the cities to the suburbs, many of the 60 residents of A Pocono Country Place who attended the Sunday meeting seemed more concerned with problems from idle youth who reside there than the threat of invading gangs."It has been said that the Poconos has become the sixth borough of the city," Sliwa said, during his first visit at APCP, where residents have been debating gang presence in the association and the need for Sliwa's help.

He made his rounds around the Poconos to sample local interest in forming a chapter of his public safety organization. Its only difference from a community crime watch is that volunteer participants of his group can make citizen arrests, he said. Volunteers patrol the streets, take notes of incidents and provide it to the police.After touring APCP, he visited Stroud Mall on Route 611."You don't address a gang problem when it's here in full effect," said Sliwa, who noticed that his audience included two Latin King members. "You prevent it from coming here or from getting worse like in the big cities."Karen White, property manager at APCP, told Sliwa during a press conference outside the main gate of the private community that if it enrolled in the Guardian Angels program the association would be stigmatized as having a gang problem, which she believed it doesn't have. She said disturbances happening behind locked gates are sometimes due to teenagers who have nothing to do or from a domestic disputes, which the association can't get involved with. The board has tried to reach out to the teenage residents in the past, White said, with community activities, but have been unsuccessful in getting them to participate.She doesn't know who invited Sliwa because the board of the directors of APCP wasn't informed of his visit.The board of directors, White told Sliwa, will discuss whether it needs the organization and would keep in contact with him.

He agreed and told White that the Guardian Angels can help APCP with after-school activities that would involve teenagers. He explained the programs are free and volunteer-based. Sliwa said he will make an appointment to meet with the board to make a presentation of those activities and also reach out to local police departments.Sliwa's presence was requested by nearly 20 residents living in private communities worried that street gangs from New York and New Jersey are moving into the Poconos, after the Associated Press reported that Pine Ridge and APCP harbored gang activity in an Aug. 7 story in the Pocono Record. Police in the story said an unknown number of gang members had moved into the Poconos.Guardian Angels have battled gangs, drugs, guns and violence for 27 years nationwide by training community volunteers to patrol neighborhoods and surrounding area that are encountering high crime rates or may be at risk of rising crime.The nonprofit organization covers community safety, professional development for educators, school-based anti-bullying coursework, anti-gang programs in the public school systems and Internet safety. It receives its funding from donations and fundraisers for the group's travels and communication, Sliwa said.The organization trains community volunteers for three months in self-defense, conditioning, certification in CPR and first aid, teaches them the law, Guardian Angels patrol techniques and radio communication.For the program to be implemented, eight to 12 residents must join, Sliwa said.After the 45-minute press conference, board members took Sliwa for a tour of the private community, introducing him to residents, whom he asked for their thoughts on gangs in the community.Resident Dana Payan, a 15-year-old student at Notre Dame High of East Stroudsburg, said "there's no real gang activity here. I've lived here all my life and I haven't had any problems."Sliwa asked Payan if local schools banned certain colors to be worn to school. Payan said they did.

"You wouldn't do that if gangs weren't here," Sliwa replied."There may be gangs but not to the point to have to do this," Payan responded pointing at Sliwa.If communities in the Poconos decide to utilize the Guardian Angels program, the training will be led by Jim Ezzo, chapter leader in Sussex Borough in New Jersey, which was initiated in February 2005."Even if there's no gang action, it doesn't mean not being proactive and vigilant," Ezzo said. "We are trained observers. We are the eyes and ears of the police."Those like Margaret Matthews, who believe the private community is faced with heavy gang activity, welcomed the group's visitation."It's all over," she said, although she hasn't witnessed gang violence. "Gangs are everywhere. Residents have to be aware of how they look, what to look for. There's fear here."When identifying gang members she looks for blue or red on their clothing, she said, and if they aren't wearing those identifiable colors then she won't know whether they are gang members.Matthews, who has been a resident at APCP since 1986 and served in public safety for five years, said the worst she saw during her term was destruction of houses by teens. Angel Surillo, a 26-year-old inactive Latin King member, moved to APCP two months ago from New York to try to change his life in the Poconos as a paint artist and hopefully open his own art shop, he said. He was among the residents on Sunday waiting to hear the founder of the Guardian Angels and willing to provide input to improve life in the community as a start to changing his life style."I haven't seen gang violence," he said, "but the presence is here. I think some young people are trying to belong to something and appear to be gang members. They need something to do."Guardian Angels will visit Wal-Mart in East Stroudsburg Sunday at noon followed by a stop at Pine Ridge in Lehman Township.

He is expected to distribute literature outside the main entrance of the development.His next stop will be at the Stroud Mall on Route 611, followed by Wal-Mart in East Stroudsburg.

The two commercial locations were chosen because they are heavily trafficked, Sliwa said.The visit, which Sliwa said is intended to gauge local interest in forming a chapter of his public safety organization, will wrap up at the Pine Ridge development in Lehman Township. Sliwa said Wednesday that his group was invited to the Poconos by nearly 20 concerned residents. Dom Giordano filled in for Monica Crowley today on 77WABC. I don't think he's ever filled in for her before. I used to listen to Mr. Giordano on WWDB from Philly when I first got into Talk Radio way back in 1991. Nows he's on WPHT but I cannot get that station. As the glitterati of talk radio gathered in New York City on June 9-10 for the big "New Media Seminar," two things virtually screamed out at you: First, FM radio is on its last legs as a music medium and second, freedom of speech must be preserved on the airwaves so that talk show hosts can be as obscene as they want to be.It may seem strange to the radio outsider that so many hosts are so protective of their "right" under the First Amendment to utter the F-word with impunity -- but here, at the annual convention put on by TALKERS Magazine -- the general theory is that if the F-word is banned, other speech may be banned as well.

www.TalkRadioForums.com is back after being down for a week. I thought that the site just ran it's course and retired but it just underwent some technical glitches. I changed the batteries in my Grundig radio and guess what? I can pull in AM stations better. Turns out that the three AA batteries that powers it were the original batteries that I put in 2004. I have to keep a log of stations that I pick up at night since I seem to be picking up stations from as far away as Colorado and can never remember call letters the next morning.

I have a small Grundig radio and the other night I was trying to tune into 77WABC from NYC but couldn't get decent reception so I began scanning around the AM dial and ended up getting decent signals and listening to shows on the following stations:

I have no idea why I could tune in more clearly to stations more than 800 miles away but I could not tune in very well to a station that's about 80 miles away. Still, it's great to listen to Talk Radio being broadcast from places far away...

Paul W. Smith Fills in for Limbaugh...

When I first started listening to Talk Radio in 1991 Paul W. Smith had a morning show on Philadelphia station, WWDB. The station converted to some sort of 80's musical format and I figured I'd never hear Paul W. Smith again. My brother said he heard him on a Detroit station a year or two ago. I was surprised to hear him fill in for Rush today.

I miss not having the internet at home so podcast (the free ones) are a great thing to have access to. In the link I've posted you can pay to download the programs of most hosts for sizeable fees but that doesn't really seem do-able at this point in time for me. AM seems to be getting weaker and weaker at home and I have to put my Grundig radio into nearly impossible places and move the antennna into positions that would make a contortionist cringe. I'm almost done with my newest Talk Radio host portrait - Sean Hannity.

One entry: "Mark used to be a DJ at WNEW-FM back in the 70s (and perhaps even into the early 80s) when it was THE rock station in, if not the country, certainly the NY area. I'm sure that Simone was at the PBS thing because he really digs the music from that era. I don't listen to him all that much now, but I know that a lot of what he says (re: conservative views) are modestly tongue in cheek/telling the audience (and his bosses) what they want to hear. Mark Simone no doubt smoked a ton of pot, stayed out and drank all night, and had no problem with the sex, drugs and rock and roll lifestyle when he was young. He's hardly a fire-breathing conservative a la Sean Hamity or Mark Levicious.... "

Sirius Signs Young Conservative Andrew Wilkow

Conservative talk show host Andrew Wilkow is leaving his daily talk program on WGY-AM/Albany and his weekend talk show on WABC-AM/New York to move to Sirius, the satellite radio company announced today. Wilkow, described by Sirius as "the next generation of talk radio," began his radio career as an 18-year-old college student. Now in his "very early thirties," according to the WABC website, this is the first time he will be reaching a national audience.
"Now is the time for a new school of conservative voices with a whole new style and passion, which is what my show is all about," Wilkow says. "Moving to Sirius lets me take that style and passion nationwide." (http://www.orbitcast.com/archives/andrew-wilkow-signs-with-sirius-satellite-radio.html)

I guess this will be the last that I hear Wilkow since I don't plan on getting Sirius any time soon since I can not really afford it. I think there will be a huge wave of Talkers moving to Satellite stations and the big assumption seems to be that most everyone is driving or walking around with this technology. This move to Sirius is going to hurt a lot of respectful Talk Radio hosts who gain listeners by people searching their radio dials. I guess people could accidentally find Wilkow on Sirius as well but if were at all possible it would be best to continue on the AM stations he is currently on and have his shows simulcast on Sirius.

June 7, 2006 -- WASHINGTON - Conservative rabble-rouser Ann Coulter created an uproar among 9/11 victims' families yesterday after she charged in her new book that a group of "self-obsessed" politically active widows are enjoying their husbands' deaths.
The razor-tongued blond polemicist made unflattering remarks about the high-profile widows who liked to call themselves the "Jersey girls." In Coulter's latest book, "Godless," she calls them "harpies" and the "Witches of East Brunswick."
"I have never seen people enjoying their husbands' deaths so much," Coulter wrote.
It was the most stinging attack on 9/11 victims' families since al Qaeda conspirator Zacarias Moussaoui took the witness stand.
And it created a firestorm and drew a quick response from the widows.
"There was no joy in watching the men we love die in the World Trade Center. There was no happiness in telling our children that they would never see their fathers again," Mindy Kleinberg of East Brunswick, N.J., whose husband died in the World Trade Center, told The Post last night.
"We are trying to make sure that nobody else walks in our footsteps. And if she [Coulter] thinks that's wrong, so be it," Kleinberg added.

"Like an insecure child, it's always been clear that Ann Coulter is prepared to do anything to get attention. Even for someone like her who crawls along the sordid bottom of the media world, this is a new low," said Rep. Anthony Weiner (D-N.Y.).
A group of New Jersey 9/11 widows - Kleinberg, Kristin Breitweiser, Patty Casazza and Lorie Van Auken - created headlines by pushing for a wide examination of intelligence and security failures that eventually led to the creation of the 9/11 commission.
In 2004, they endorsed Democratic presidential candidate John Kerry, fiercely denounced President Bush and participated in political ads using images from the attacks - actions that prompted Coulter's attack.
"These self-obsessed women seemed genuinely unaware that 9/11 was an attack on our nation and acted as if the terrorist attacks happened only to them. The whole nation was wounded, all our lives reduced. But they believed the entire country was required to marinate in their exquisite personal agony," Coulter said.
"These broads are millionaires, lionized on TV and in articles about them, reveling in their status as celebrities and stalked by grief-arazzis."
Coulter accused the four widows of "trying to convert their personal tragedy into a weapon to dictate national policy."
And then she got personal.
"And by the way, how do we know their husbands weren't planning to divorce these harpies? Now that their shelf life is dwindling, they'd better hurry up and appear in Playboy," Coulter said.
Coulter, 45, a well-known columnist and author, has been a conservative lightning rod for years. Her appearances on college campuses frequently have been met with angry protests.
She could not be reached for comment last night.
But yesterday, in a testy exchange with host Matt Lauer on NBC's "Today" show, Coulter was unapologetic about her insults on the 9/11 widows.
"They were cutting commercials for Kerry and using their grief to make a political point," Coulter said.
"It's a dramatic statement: 'These broads are millionaires'?" Lauer asked, citing the book.
"Yeah," she replied.
" 'I have never seen people enjoying their husbands' deaths so much'?" Lauer pressed.
"Yes. They are all over the news," Coulter said.

If you listen to Talk Radio for enough time you will be able to see through a lot of the haze of politics and make some pretty accurate predictions. When I heard of Al Zarqowi's death I knew that his death would be spun by liberals. My first thought was that nut jobs are going to say that Al Zarqowi died a long time ago and that his body was taken out of storage when George W.'s ratings started to get low. Sure enough, I was right. I googled Ann Coulter and her "witches" comment that she made on the Today Show and it was amazing how many "news" sources and bloggers made it seem like she called all 9/11 widows witches. In actuality her comment does sound shocking when removed from context. But....context?...we don't need no stinkin' context!

I don't know how Howard Stern got the number one slot but what I really took issue with is the description of Laura Ingraham's show: "America's most listened-to female issues talk host." I guess whoever made this list doesn't actually listen to Talk Radio which explains how Howard Stern got the number one slot but calling Laura Ingraham's show a "female issues" show is ludicrous. Laura Ingraham's show is hardcore politics straight-up but according to Talkers Magazine you'd think she discusses menstruation, menapause and how to get a better man.

It's good to tune into hosts you haven't listened to in a while. Last night while I was lying on my bed I listened to Laura Ingraham and Michael Savage. It was good to hear their voices again. It's funny that Savage used heavy metal for his bumper music since he'd probably consider the people who make this music degenerates.

I think that Talk Radio hosts should all get together to make a record to raise money for some cause or another. Maybe they could all sing "We Are the World" or "Do They Know it's Christmas." Or maybe spoof these songs with different lyrics.

Last night on The Right Perspective, the host called Curtis Sliwa a "schmuck."

At the end of Mark Simone's show this morning on WABC he dug into American Idol for a few minutes and I was laughing out loud as I tried to write down some quotes:
About Idol host Ryan Seacrest: "(He) makes John Kerry seem personable."
About the show in general: "Why all the singing? Just have them come out and have Simon Cowell make fun of them."

I've been trying to tell people the same thing about Ryan Seacrest for a long time. I am sure he's a really swell guy but the dude is blander than cheap white bread. He has no personality. he's boring to look at and what's the deal with Don Johnson-like five-day stubble that never seems to grow? American Idol is the hottest show on TV, why was Seacrest chosen to host it? I listened to his Top 40 radio show and the commercials were more interesting to listen to than anything that Seacrest said.

So...it's Larry Kudlow on WABC until noon, then Monica Crowley for the first part of the afternoon...

I watched the Glenn Beck Show on CNN last night. You know the band that sounds kind of punk that does a little song for his radio show? He should get them to be the band for his TV show to add a little spice to it. I realize that this would suck a lot of money out of the show's budget but it really seems like the show needs another flesh and blood person on the set. The show was not that bad though. The set is fantastic and there was nothing cheesy that I could point out in the entire program. On a scale of 1 - 10 I'd give it a 7. I've only seen one show so far though.... I definitely want to see him on his "Mid-Life Crisis Tour."

On Friday night I listened to a great Talk Radio show that is broadcast on the internet as well as on shortwave - The Right Perspective (http://therightperspectivepodcastblog.blogspot.com). The show was terrific.

To show you how out of touch I've been with the world of Talk Radio, I found out on Friday that Glenn Beck has a TV show. I'll try to watch it this week. The only radio shows that I've been listening to on a somewhat consistent basis are Rush Limbaugh, Andrew Wilkow and now The Right Perspective.

I am sure as the summer heats up I'll be listening to more Talk Radio. Each year I usually drift away from it for a few months since I get burned out on it.

Andrew Wilkow is one of the few hosts that keep my interest these days. He's a real pitbull behind the mic and pulls no punches. And what is it with all these stupid protests over "immigrant rights"? No immigrants are being treated unfairly. ILLEGAL immigrants are the issue. If you want to become an American citizen and reap all of the benefits thereof, go about getting your citizenry in the proper fashion. That's not what these people want though. When my father's family came to this country in the 1950's they became citizens in a by-the-book manner. They didn't sneak in and sign up for a bunch of benefits and freeload off the back of the American taxpayer.

The response that I posted:
Since you mentioned conservative talk radio hosts having an "I'm right and you're an idiot" attitude I will comment - while I can only defend hosts that I listen to I will say that none of them have that attitude at all. And if a host is right there is always going to be someone that thinks they're an idiot. If someone tells me the sky is red when I can see that it is blue I will be interpreted as having an "I'm right and you're an idiot" attitude. So be it. Most critics of conservative talk radio hosts have only listened to certain hosts for a very, very short time anyway and have not grasped the host's personality.

I find it amusing when I hear callers tell a host "I know you're going to hang up on me because I disagree with you, etc. etc." It's obvious that these are first-time callers and all that they know about the host that they are calling is what they've heard from other people because in the decade or more than I've listened to talk radio I can honestly say that I've ever heard anyone hung up on because they disagreed with a certain host. Some calls were abrubtly ended because the caller was not making any sense - this happens all the time. I remember a caller to Mark Levin in December who kept saying "I know you're going to hang up on me now" - the caller couldn't even get to his point.

RUSH: Cliff in Portland, Oregon, I'm glad you called, sir. Welcome to the EIB Network. CALLER: Mega out-of-control dittos from Portland, Oregon, where literally three-quarters of the city's citizens STILL have Kerry-Edwards bumper stickers on their cars!
RUSH: Well, you gotta feel sorry for them.
CALLER: I do. It's just so funny. But the reason I called is regarding, I think you called it issue #4, that was the surveillance wiretapping part? I was watching the whole thing on Fox and right as -- I'm pretty sure it was on that one, they showed the gum chewer and she was rolling her eyes and had a mocking laughter smile on her face when he was saying all this.
RUSH: Yeah. Well let me explain what Hillary was reacting to there, because the little known fact is that Bush made reference to previous presidents having done exactly what he's done, and Mrs. Clinton heard, without his name being mentioned, his name. And the Democrats are trying to set Bush up as a criminal, that he has broken the law, and so by invoking all these past presidents, not by name, but saying, "Hey, we've all done it before with previous presidents," he brought Bill Clinton into it -- and Hillary doesn't like it when her husband's name gets mentioned. There was another instance. Bush told a joke about... What was the line? He had a joke about Clinton being (interruption). Yeah, (paraphrased), "My brother and I both turned 60 this year," Bill Clinton, and they cut to Hillary, and she was not laughing. She was glaring, because I'm telling you, folks, she is sick and tired of her husband being the butt of all these jokes. Not sick and tired because it's unfair; sick and tired because it's warranted, and it's just embarrassing to her. So Bush got her twice last night, too. Ah, this was great. I mean, you want Hillary looking that way, Cliff! That's the way she really is: chewing gum during the State of the Union address and glaring at the president of the United States. It was a homerun.
NOTE: "(interruption)" is Rush's staff saying something to him that you don't hear on the air. I Don't want anyone thinkin' I would ever interrupt the mighty Maha Rushie!
As anyone who's ever tried to call Limbaugh's show can tell you...it ain't easy gettin' through and gettin' through doesn't necessarily guarantee you on-air time either.

This site has a huge selection of cartoons / comic strips talking about talk radio. It's all one-sided though and they all make fun of talk radio hosts, especially Rush Limbaugh. Everyone's fair game in a comic strip but when the artist purposely gives half-information or portrays a host's listeners / fans as idiots - well, they lost me. Believe me - if Al Franken had a medical condition and was prescribed pain killers and he then got addicted to them really seriously - I would NOT find it funny to see a conservative cartoonist make fun of him as a drug addict. I had a big, big problem with Glenn Beck when he kept going on and on with Michael Moore fat jokes. That kind of stuff is just not funny to me.

I am getting so sickened with politics lately that I have been cutting back on my talk radio listening time. Bill O'Reilly was on the Laura Ingraham show on Friday night and it was amazing at how composed he was while speaking of his appearance on David Letterman (see www.BillOreilly.com) for the video). I guess when someone is speaking the truth they are not easily harranged or offended by immature behaviour because they know that they are right and no amount of childlike behaviour is going to shake you. The Letterman Meltdown
CBS's Late Show host David Letterman is supposed to be funny. He makes more than $20 million a year because he is funny. His Top Ten List is a brand unto itself. He was endearing when he did bits like his old Stupid Pet Tricks. I laughed when he ribbed Oprah and Uma.
But on Tuesday night's show, he acquitted himself as just another unhinged member of the liberal entertainment mafia when he interviewed Fox New Channel's Bill O'Reilly.
Even before O'Reilly walked on stage, Letterman acted like a spoiled brat when he used a pencil to stir O'Reilly's mug of water. (So the audience and Letterman were snickering as O'Reilly was oblivious when he went to drink.)
The most revealing exchange occurred toward the end of the segment.
Letterman: I'm not smart enough to debate you point to point on this, but I have the feeling, I have the feeling about 60 percent of what you say is crap. [audience laughter] But I don't know that for a fact.
O'Reilly: Listen, I respect your opinion. You should respect mine.
Letterman: Yeah, but I think there's something, this fair and balanced [Fox branding]. I'm not sure that it's--I don't think that you represent an objective viewpoint.
O'Reilly: Well, you're going to have to give me an example if you're going to make those claims.

Letterman: Well I don't watch your show so that would be impossible.
O'Reilly: Then why would you come to that conclusion if you don't watch the program? Letterman: Because of things that I've read, things that I know.
Novel concept for a comedian/talk show host: invite a guest on your show, then insult him based on second-hand accounts of his work.
O'Reilly: You weren't aware of the big giant controversy over Christmas?
Letterman: Well, I ignore stuff like that, it doesn't really affect me. I go ahead and do what I wanna do. Let it go. It will take care of itself.

I'll bet Letterman liked all those stories about President Bush living in a bubble, detached from the real world. But what about the blue-state-mentality bubble that Letterman lives in?
Other Letterman knee-slappers:
On Cindy Sheehan: "I am very concerned about people like yourself who don't have nothing (sic) but endless sympathy for people like Cindy Sheehan. Have you lost family members in armed conflict? [O'Reilly answers no.] Then you can hardly speak for her."
On the war in Iraq: "Why the hell are we there to begin with?"
Letterman deserves credit for having traveled both to Iraq and Afghanistan to entertain the troops. But does he stop to wonder how his pro-Sheehan, anti-Bush lines would go over there?
When Al Gore or Howard Dean or Al Franken sit down with Dave it's light and funny and cozy and friendly. With O'Reilly, Letterman was dismissive, condescending, and just plain nasty. He was more Carville than Carson. Actually, even James Carville is funnier than Dave these days. And nicer, too.
Why does this matter? Be cause for better or worse, many younger Americans get the bulk of their cultural and even political news from hosts like Letterman and Comedy Central's Jon Stewart, who want us to believe that their humor is non-partisan. After all, they are quick to point out, let's not forget all the Monica jokes they told when Bill Clinton was president.
But Letterman's sit-down with O'Reilly, much like Stewart's petulant attack against Tucker Carlson on CNN (calling Carlson a male-private part), was notable for what it revealed. Underneath it all, Letterman is just another liberal frustrated at the very existence of guys like O'Reilly, and of men like President Bush. You look at his facial expressions when he's talking to O'Reilly and hear his tone and you know he's thinking -- how can Americans be so ignorant? How could they elect the buffoon in the White House and how could they watch this buffoon sitting across from me?
It is painfully obvious that many of the entertainment giants are making the same mistake the "mainstream" media giants made decades ago when they began staking out biased and "edgy" political positions that offended and alienated millions of potential viewers. Eventually, this drove people to seek out alternative media outlets -- such as the Fox News Channel. If the Letterman and his ilk don't drop the persistent disdain for red state America, we can expect to see the same thing happen to their industry.
Then we'll see who has the last laugh.

Well, I still haven't thought of any clever nicknames for Michael Savage. I do have other good news though. I've started to collect bumper stickers from talk radio stations. So far (I just started two weeks ago) I have seven from stations in seven different states. One person submitted a nickname for Savage (see the last post) - "Messy Mike." Good start but, I am looking for something that rhymes with Michael or Savage. I really thought that it'd be easier.

1. I've gotta laugh atleast once. Even a chuckle.
2. There has to be something about the host that I can "latch onto" and identify with.
3. Cool bumper music rocks.
4. The host can't take themself 100% seriously every single minute.

So I turn my radio on last night expecting to hear Mark Levin on WABC- no, Andrew Wilkow is filling in for him. Hey, I'm okay with that. Wilkow was only on for 28 minutes because the station was airing a friggin' hockey game! So, out of frustration I scan the dial and decide to try WOR- I was happy because I had no idea that they carried Michael Savage's show. So I listened to that for a while. Atleast now I know that a station that I can get in clearly that has Michael Savage. It was another "best of" show so I wasn't totally happy... My friend, Jay posted this little rant about Michael Savage on his website. Normally, he doesn't talk about Talk Radio - when he does, I will post his comments here...

Normally, I like Michael Savage, because he's just a bit fed-up and crazy, and his pissed off-ness articulateness is entertaining, especially when people call him up and basically ask to have their hindquarters handed to them. One night last week, they aired one of those "Best of" shows, which usually aren't all that great. I was listening in the ol' van as I did some nighttime chores.One of the segments involved him and a caller (sounded like an nice, old black woman) patting each other on the back for being mutually meanspirited or something. Then he launched into his agnostic / hippie, "every religion is a legitmate path to God" woolly-brained nonsense. That's fine if you're an atheist or a humanist. But, please, be consistent. It's not as hard as it sounds.I wanted to call him up and ask him if atheism or terrorist Islam was a legitimate path to God, and if he didn't think so, what the basis for his reasoning was. Then when he went into a anecdote about San Fransisco or Barbara Boxer being an "empty skirt", I'd ask him if the first six numbers of pi were always 3.14159, or if Lithium's atomic number was always 3, and if so, why not such rigidity could not be applied to the supernatural, and if it cannot, what the basis for his reason was. At this point, he would just start yelling at me for changing the subject and call me "liberal vermin" and wonder why we got rid of the Sedition Act.Then I remembered it was a rerun, so I got a coffee at Wawa and drove home.

Savage doesn't get into the topic of religion that often, but from what I know, he considers himself to be a Universalist because he rejects the idea that believing in Jesus is the only way to go to heaven and that non-believing good people will go to hell while bad Christians will automatically get a free pass to heaven. He sees religion as a wheel, and that there are five spokes (Judaism, Christianity, Buddhism, Hinduism and Islam) which lead to God. I think what he might have meant was every major religion, although that is not what he said. Overall, it seems like his core beliefs come down to salvation for good people, regardless of their religion.

I've heard him talk about atheism before. He was ranting about it and it went something like him asking why in the world anyone would be an atheist because if they're right, they get nothing, and if they're wrong about a religion in particular, their afterlife probably won't be pleasant and something about at least if you're a Christian, you at least have a shot at heaven.I haven't heard him address terrorist Islam (or "Islamofascism" as he calls it) in a religious sense, but it's reasonable to assume that he believes they do not fall into the "good person" category because of all the killings.

You have got to be kidding me. I don't want to go too far off-topic, but that is the first time I've ever heard somebody use probability as an argument in a religious debate.

Well, maybe this isn't obscure knowledge but... I have heard a lot of criticisms of Rush's fans - they don't understand the term "Ditto Head" - this does not mean that they just repeat or believe whatever he says. The term "Ditto Head" came about because callers, as soon as they got on the air used to spend a minute or two telling Rush how much they loved him and his show - then some callers got away from this by just saying "dittos" - meaning - "I feel the same about your show as the last caller!" People who criticize Rush's fan by interpreting the phrase "Ditto Head" as meaning mindless followers have not really listened to Rush's show so they are not qualified to comment on it or his fans...

2. Neal Boortz, but he has a show already. Walter E. Williams, but he subs for Limbaugh, which is about the only time I'll tune in for all three hours of Limbaugh
3. All were outstanding...Levin was superior...I would love to hear Ollie
4. Althout Mark Simone did an A+ job, my heart belongs to the "Great One," and we got him for an extra hour too!
5. Tucker Carlson. Always fun...and very intelligient
6. Levin. Superior intellect and base of knowledge. VERY funny, albeit an acquired taste in that department. He SPANKED The New York Times and destroyed all the bogus claims against this Administration's authorizations of wiretapping without Court orders. The man is brilliant.

Mark Levin fills in for Hannity this afternoon! I can't wait.

About a week ago I posted these questions - How much talk radio do you listen to on a daily basis? Do you ever get stressed out when you listen to a lot of talk radio? Do you ever feel like you need to take a break from talk radio? I got three answers:
"1. I listen to NPR about 2 hours a day2. Yes. Sometimes they let a conservative gets on and I want to ring their neck. (Or the occasional eastern liberal who hasn't realized that we don't do AA here in california. 3. Why no, I always enjoy learning points of view you don't get to hear otherwise"

"About 4 and a half hours without commercials (so, about 7 with commercials). All 3 hours of Savage (2 hours -- no commercials), 2 hours or so of Ingraham (no commercials), best of Rush of previous day -- about 30 min. Saturdays -- Monica Crowley, Sunday -- best of Hannity, best of Medved and Drudge"

"5 or 6 days a week I think it great, if I get stressed over it I just turn it off there nothing else to listen to."

I am really thankful for Talk Radio. The world is a much better place because of Talk Radio. Almost all of the big news outlets are agenda-driven...Talk Radio offers the opportunity for listeners to hear other sides of the stories and give the shakers and movers of the world to speak without a media filter over the mouths.

The Next Generation of Talk Radio...

Was it Andrew Wilkow that coined the phrase "The Next Generation of Talk Radio"? What exactly constitutes the "Next Generation"? It's obviously not an amazing speaking voice. No, no, don't get me wrong! I understand that a radio voice like Rush's or Beck's is a very rare thing and it's obvious that Hannity's rising ratings are in no part due to an amazing radio voice (he's very nasaly!). So...who else besides Wilkow is part of this "Next Generation"? Who are the "Next Generation" hosts of the same caliber of Rush and Beck?
